On August 18th, The Kentucky Humane Society will hold their annual event at the Marriott Louisville Downtown. This benefit auction and gala is creatively named "Tuxes and Tails" and is sponsored by Brown-Forman. "Starry Night" is the theme this year and is sure to be a fabulous event!
The Kentucky Humane Society holds the event to praise pets and the people who love them and is Louisville's premiere evening to celebrate this bond. Guests will enjoy dinner, dancing, a live and silent auctions, and adorable adoptable pets! Tuxes and Tails' signature Live and Silent Auctions are provided by generous private and corporate donors and include over 275 packages. Previous auction items have included luxury beach getaways, a trip-of-a-lifetime to the 2012 Masters Golf Tournament and a halter worn by 2011 Kentucky Derby winner, Animal Kingdom.
Last year Tuxes and Tails raised over $175,000 for animals in need. These funds help grow and sustain the Kentucky Humane Society's life-saving mission programs that help thosands of pets in need each year. The money that is raised goes toward proactive programs such as adoptions, education, and spay/neuter initiatives.

Uncork the Uplands Event
The 2nd Annual "Uncork the Uplands" takes place this Saturday and locally known, Huber's Orchard Winery and Vineyards, is playing host! This wine and food event will feature the finest selections from award-winning wines and food cultivated exclusively from the south-central region of Indiana, known as the Uplands Wine Region.
This event isn't discriminatory though! To the contrary, wine and food novices are encouraged to attend, as it is to be an educational experience for experts and amateurs alike. Additionally, this event is being held at a location that is accessible from all Southern and Central Indiana regions, and is only 25 miles from Downtown Louisville. Saturday's festivities begin at 5:00 pm where guests will enjoy special Indiana food and wine pairings. Also included in the event will be culinary presentations by Daniel Orr, the internationally renowned chef and creator of FARMbloomington. Furthermore, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go toward Ivy Tech of Southern Indiana's Viticulture Enology Science & Technology Alliance and The FARM Fund, which raises future culinary chefs at Ivy Tech in Bloomington, IN.

Summer Fun in Louisville, Kentucky
If you're looking for some Summer Fun in Louisville, Kentucky for your kids, check out what local area businesses are offering to rescue them from summer boredom!
The Louisville Free Public Library is offering a summer reading program where kids up to 5th grade can read books and earn rewards! The program, called The All Star Reader program, runs through August 11th, and features prizes such as ball caps and passes to the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Science Center, Squire Boone Caverns and the planetarium. Kids can also enter to win various grand prizes! Take your kids to any of the Louisville branches and the can pick up a scorecard for this program.
Another option for those wanting to escape this July heat is an offering of kid-friendly movies at Tinsletown, through their Summer Movie Clubhouse. Take advantage of this offer on Saturdays and Sundays at 10am where tickets are only $1! Similarly, Stonybrook and Preston Crossings theaters are sponsoring the Free Family Film Festival, Monday and Thursday mornings at 10am and admission is free!
If neither of the options above interest your child, check out an alternative option at Lowe's or Home Depot. Lowe's is offering free Build and Grow Clinics, which are held two weekends a month and offer kids a chance to participate in multiple kinds of projects. The upcoming clinics are held on July 14th and 15th and have a Kung Fu Panda theme! Home Depot hosts a similar program called Kids Workshops that occur on the first Saturday of every month from 9-12. In July's workshop, coming up on July 7th, kids will be building a moving truck. Kids also receive a kids workshop apron, commemorative pin, and a certificate!

Norton Commons
Norton Commons is a New Urbanist development that seamlessly mixes old with new.
