This Saturday, Churchill Downs will host one of the biggest parties of the summer when they open their gates for night racing! Downs After Dark has become one of the most anticipated nights of the summer in Louisville because it mixes a night out on the town with Kentucky's beloved horse racing.
Although previously held on Friday nights during the spring meet, Downs After Dark has moved to Saturday nights and will feature quality racing. This Saturday's event features 11 races including four graded stakes races worth $750,000! Although some are drawn to this event for horse racing alone, there are also several people drawn to Downs After Dark for other reasons.
Additional reasons that thousands gather at the downs include the cuisine, fashion, style, music and entertainment! This weekend's theme is Desert Oasis with colors such as ornate gold, ambers, oranges and purples with a Middle Eastern feel. Guests can also expect to see intimate cabanas, Moroccan rugs, lanterns, henna tattoo artists, belly dancers and sitar players. For entertainment, there will be a Cincinnati-based cover band, Off the Hook, from 4-8:30, followed by VJ 2nd Nature from 8:30-midnight.
